Bonita (Spanish for beautiful) has had a rough start. Her mother became very sick right after Bonita's litter was whelped. Four of her litter-mates died, but Bonita was a survivor. She broke her leg at four weeks old. Even in a cast she was not going to let life get her down and played with her siblings as much as she was allowed. At about eight weeks she was diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta. This is a congenital disease that prevents the bones from becoming fully dense. We could only find 2 cases of the disease (both in Germany). The puppies were studied then euthanized. The best website we could find was the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, which is a human site. Her symptoms most closely align with Type 1, neither of her parents have the disease. Bonita had such a happy disposition we decided not to euthanize her and see what would happen.
She was born on July 4, 2010. Her bones have densified and she is doing well. There have been no more problems, she rough-houses outside with her litter-mate Bug as well as the other 8 adult dogs in our home.
We have decided it is time she had the opportunity for a home of her own and are putting her up for adoption. She will make a wonderful loving pet. She is registered on an AKC limited registration (no breeding or confirmation). She would love to do rally or obedience at the novice level.
She is about 10-20% smaller than the average female bloodhound (70 pounds). Bonita is crate trained and house broke. She loves to watch TV on your lap in either the chair or the couch. She has been to some socialization classes and has done well with other dogs outside of our home. She is up to date on all her vaccines, micro chipped and spayed.
